
Some people say, Kitzbühel is not a place, it is a condition. The little town (8.600 inhabitants) was founded long before Christ (Bronze Age). On June 8th 1271 it received the rights of a town. In the middle ages (15th century) copper & silver mines brought a certain amount of wealth to the community. Some houses still standing in the centre of town were built at that time. At the end of the 19th century, tourism discovered this quiet place and changed it a lot. Today the Kitzbühel-Reith-Aurach-Jochberg area provides 8.800 guestbeds. There is a Pedestrian zone in the historic part of Kitzbühel. The cable car company runs 55 cable cars, chairlifts and T-bars which explore 60 well kept ski runs (168 km) which are partly prepared by snowmaking (91 km). All facilities are covered by one ski pass, which also entitles you to use the shuttle bus service and brings reduction in the „Aquarena“ swimming-pools & Sauna. The Aquarena pools with two big water slides are open from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. Sauna with steam- and turkish bath from 1 p.m - 9 p.m. It has also ample facilities for Solarium, Massage, and the famous Moorbad. This department includes mudpacks, mudbath and medical bath which are highly recommended for rheumatism sufferers, slipped discs and general healing and cleansing strength. In Kitzbühel there are also a lot of Beauty Centres, Sun and Nail Studios and the Fit- ness for Fun gym in the Jochbergerstraße, which offers over 100 apparatus to get your circulation going and tone your muscles. Visit the new Indoor- and Outdoor Icerinks, Curling Hall and the huge Artificial Climbing Wall by the Shell petrol station, Jochbergerstraße. Right beside are also the three Indoor - Tennis Courts. Two Bowling Alleys are at the „Kulturhaus“ Reith. Tyrolean Eisschießen at the Alpenhotel Schwarzsee.

Kitzbühel, Aurach, Jochberg, Paß Thurn an Reith each have their own Ski Schools. The most experienced is the Kitzbühel Ski School Red Devils under the direction of Rudi Sailer. Special courses for children, snow boarders and cross country skiing. There is also Gambling-Casino in the centre of town with Roulette, Black Jack, Poker and slotmachines. Open daily from 3 p.m. The Local Museum in the Hinterstadt shows a walk through the history of Kitzbühel and paintings by the famous Alfons Walde. The Cable-car-museum in the top station of the Hahnenkamm cable-car is open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and shows the development of cable-cars, lifts and the skiing area. The Wildlife Park Aurach (closed from Jan 7th until Feb 6th) is situated approx. 7 km from Kitzbühel and has over 200 animals. Open from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Closed on Monday The animals are fed at 2:30 p.m. Naturally Kitzbühel has a Post-Office; believe it or not, three Railway-Stations. Express trains only stop at the Main-Station; a Hospital, two Chemists and a lot of Doctors and Dentists (see page 142); good shopping, several Travel Agencies, Rent-a-Car, ten Banks and diverse Clubs.
Rotarians meet every Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the Hotel Tiefenbrunner; the Lions Club every first and third Tuesday of the month and the ladies of the Soroptimist Club every first Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. in the Hotel Rasmushof; Round Table every second and fourth Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in the restaurant Chizzo. For those who like to play Bridge there is a daily get-together at 4 p.m. in the Hotel Kitzhof and every Tuesday from 7:30 p.m. and every Saturday from 4 p.m. tournaments are played. Guests who have visited Kitzbühel - Reith - Aurach - Jochberg more then ten times, can become free members of the International Club for Regular Guests and receive the Bronze Pin. Catholic church service is offered every Sat at 5 p.m. and Sunday at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. in the Parish church and at 8 and 10 p.m. in the Monastery Church. The Protestant church near the Horn cable-car station holds its services every Sunday at 10 a.m. .
